Too often today we hear about Time Management or Work Life Balance, but so few of us are actually able to do just that… manage our time. I´d like to share my experience in overcoming this big challenge and my motivation for doing so.
I grew up as a child in a small business family. As a child in this family, life was fantastic.
We got a great house with loads of space to run around and play, we went on great holidays, I got the opportunity to go to a fantastic school with opportunities beyond what I could have expected if Dad had a standard job. I got phenomenal exposure to what running a business was like and talk of gross profit, overhead, turnover were commonplace around the dining room table.
There was a flipside though…
My Dad regularly worked 12-15 hour days, often 7 days a week. He’d be travelling away a lot in search of the next deal that would enable the business to continue and to ensure we could maintain the lifestyle (house, holidays, school) that we’d enjoyed.
His Time Management was out of sync.
Some years were great, some not so…
Work Life Balance or lack of eventually led to my parents divorce as they spent less and less time together and the world moved on.
Small business broke our family.
My childhood was a crash course in small business – the highs and the lows. Out of that childhood came a passion for the potential and excitement that being a business owner of a micro business or SME offers. There also came a keen awareness of the impact running a small business could have on the lives of those who take the risk of business ownership on. I knew I had to be different.
Fast forward 20 years and now I ensure that business owners achieve success both personally and for their business.
Following a great career in business and property development and the successful setup of my own sports coaching business, I looked for my next move and found business coaching with ActionCOACH.
What I found was the structure and support to build a new type of professional services company.
A company that will ensure that every business owner has the knowledge but more importantly the focus and accountability to improve and deliver whatever their dreams are for their family and their business.
It’s a cliche but we do all ‘only live once’ and too many business owners put up with a substandard lifestyle because they simply don’t know what or how to do things differently and they don’t have the support and accountability of someone to get them moving in a better direction.
Using tools like the time tracker attached below helped me master the skill of managing my time. I not only got things done quicker but more of it… and with better results.
I really hope it´s useful to you and would love to hear back the opportunities it opens for you. Start improving your quality of life by downloading our ‘time tracker tool’ and get to grips with the things that really matters.
